Our 2012 charity partners
Martin Currie Charitable Foundation
The Martin Currie Charitable Foundation is a registered charity (SCO37106) run by the staff of Martin Currie Investment Management, who select good causes to benefit from the firm's charitable activities. In 2012 the main beneficiaries of the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge will be Alzheimer Scotland, the NSPCC, and WaterAid, who collectively will share at least 75% of the proceeds of the event. The remainder will be awarded by the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation through smaller donations to a range of good causes.
For details of how these funds were awarded in 2011, visit www.martincurrie.com/mccf. Below we provide short profiles of our main charity partners for 2012.
NSPCC
The NSPCC is the UK's leading children charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children.
The NSPCC runs projects and services across the United Kingdom and Channel Islands, including ChildLine, the UK's free, confidential 24-hour helpline for children and young people. At ChildLine trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Through the Child's Voice Appeal the NSPCC wants to transform ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline for adults who are concerned about a child, to answer more calls for help and give children a wider range of choices and options in the way they contact them, so that they can be there whenever or wherever children need them.

Alzheimer Scotland
Alzheimer Scotland believes no one should go through dementia on their own. We provide care, support, advice and information to people with dementia and their carers and families, throughout Scotland. We believe that with the right information, advice and care, people with dementia can be supported to continue doing the things they enjoy for as long as possible. We provide a 24 hour freephone Dementia Helpline (0808 808 3000), Dementia Advisors, Dementia Nurses, medical research and many other services from over 60 locations throughout Scotland.
There are currently around 71,000 people with dementia in Scotland and this number is expected to rise to 127,000 by 2031. Find out more at www.alzscot.org.
WaterAid
WaterAid works in 26 of the world's poorest countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. Its mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world's poorest communities. These basic human rights underpin health, education and livelihoods, forming the first essential step in overcoming poverty.
Currently 4,000 children die every single day from water related diseases, more than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. WaterAid is fighting to change this by working with local partners, who understand local issues, providing them with the skills and support to help communities set up and manage practical and sustainable projects that meet their real needs.
WaterAid also works locally and internationally to change policy and practice to ensure that water, hygiene and sanitation's vital role in reducing poverty is recognised. For more information, visit www.wateraid.org.
